Every child deserves the same opportunities in life. Unfortunately, statistics show that African-American children are three and a half times more likely to be placed in out-of-home care than Caucasian children in similar circumstances (disproportionate placement).

We also know that while in placement, children of color are more likely to experience negative outcomes related to child abuse reporting, family-centered services, removals, foster care placement, timely reunification, and placement stability when compared to white children (disparate outcomes).

This is despite the fact that studies show that there is no significant racial difference in founded or substantiated rates of child abuse.

Our Mission:
To partner with Des Moines area schools, courts, local business, other social service agencies, and the faith community to highlight the problem of racial disparity in child welfare and to eliminate the disproportionality and disparate outcomes for African-American children within 5 years.
